Early Intervention at Scribbles and Giggles

Children aged 0-3 years residing at Sub-Acute Saratoga Children's Hospital are eligible for early intervention services through Scribbles and Giggles. Scribbles and Giggles is an early intervention and daycare program located on the grounds of Sub-Acute Saratoga Children's Hospital. Early intervention is program of specialized educational services designed to focus on motor, social, cognitive, language and self-help skills. To obtain services, your child will be referred to your local regional center (a state funded agency responsible for coordinating services for individuals with special needs) by the case manager at Sub-Acute Children's Saratoga. Soon thereafter, an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meeting will be convened to discuss your child's development and to determine goals and services. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. Once it is determined your child qualifies for early intervention, services can take place in one of two ways:

Hospital Based Early Intervention
An early interventionist will work with your child in the hospital and provide:
  • Play based activities to enhance development
  • Suggestions to incorporate developmental activities into your daily routines
  • Recommendations on the most age appropriate toys, games and books
  • Changes that can be made to environment to enhance development
  • Suggestions for activities that you can perform while visiting your child

Center Based Early Intervention: Our center based program focuses on children aged 18 to 36 months who are beginning the transition preschool. Activities take place in a group setting and are thematic and play based. The program is 2 hours long and your child can attend one to two days a week.

Every six months, your child's development will be evaluated and the results of that assessment will be discussed with you. At that time, goals and strategies can be updated based on your child's progress.
